Our Story
Our Founding Story
GenerateHope was founded in 2009 by Susan Munsey and members of Harbor City Church in San Diego, born out of a deep desire to provide trauma-informed care to women who had survived the unimaginable horrors of sex trafficking. Recognizing the urgent need for a safe, comprehensive, and long-term healing environment, the founders created San Diego’s first on-site, integrated restorative care program specifically for survivors.
In 2018, GenerateHope continued pioneering survivor restoration resources with the opening of a Transition Program that we call Carole’s Cottage. The use of a large, renovated mansion has been gifted to GenerateHope, adding a critical element to ensure the best of support as a graduate of the Restorative Care Program enters her new and healthy freedom. This 1 year program of "guided independence" focuses on collegiate support, internships, and living-wage vocational development.
In 2020 as the demand for these services grew beyond California, GenerateHope began expansion efforts to Colorado with the leadership of Rachel Leachman, bringing the same proven model of hope, healing, and restoration to serve women impacted by sex trafficking in the Rocky Mountain region. The home was lovingly named Rachel’s Ranch. Our mission remains rooted in the belief that every survivor deserves the chance to heal, thrive, and reclaim her life.
As the demand for services grows, GenerateHope remains steadfast in its mission to provide a true path to freedom for survivors of sex trafficking. While our roots are in long-term residential care, our programs have expanded beyond the walls of our homes to offer broader support and resources. We continue to seek innovative and compassionate ways to reach more women, walking alongside each survivor as she reclaims her life and future. With hope as our foundation, we look forward to what’s ahead.
